Things to consider when writing your birth plan
 
  • Where will baby be born?
  • When will you leave for your chosen birth place?
  • Who will go with you?
  • Who will meet you there?
  • Will you and your husband ever be seperated?
  • What prepping procedures will you go through?
  • How will the baby be monitored during labor?
  • Will you be free to move/walk/change positions as desired/needed?
  • What time limits will there be on total length of labor/length of pushing stage?
  • What positions may you use during second stage labor?
  • How will you push?
  • Will you have an episiotomy?
  • Will you take pictures?
  • Will you breastfeed the baby immediately?
  • Who will cut the cord
  • When will the cord be cut?
  • Will the baby be taken from the parents? If so, how long/why?
  • When will you be allowed to return home (if birthing at a hospital/birth center)?
  • What must you do before you are released from the hospital/birthing center?
